The Norumbega is open year round!

Policies

Arrivals

We welcome our guests between 3:00-6:00 p.m. Early check-ins are permitted only with advance notice and depend on availability. We will contact you via text message on the day of your arrival to ensure your check-in process is smooth.
Should your schedule necessitate an arrival after 6pm, please let us know by responding to the text message you receive, and we will ensure that instructions for accessing your room after-hours are provided.

Departures

Check out is by 11 a.m. Late check-out may be available with advance notice. Given the challenges of cleaning rooms prior to new guest arrivals, late check-outs without prior permission will be charged a $100.00 late check-out fee.

Reservation / Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy: An advance payment of 50% of your stay is taken upon reservation for a multiple-night stay; for a one-night stay, the full amount is due at time of booking.

Being a venue of only eleven rooms, we are unable to absorb the financial impact of cancellations that occur within a 7-day window of your arrival, and encourage you to purchase Traveler’s Insurance if your plans are uncertain. If we are able to re-book your room(s) following a change or cancellation within the 7-day window, we will refund your deposit minus the $50 per room processing fee.

Rates / policies are subject to change and may vary during high impact periods and special events.

Occupancy

All of our Rooms have a maximum occupancy of two guests, with the exception of the Library Suite and Warwick, which each can accommodate a third guest in the second bed for a supplemental $75 charge. The Penthouse Suite and Sandringham can accommodate a third guest by adding a cot to the room, and Lancaster can accommodate a third guest via a pull-out sofa – each option requires a supplemental $75/night charge.

Pets

While we love animals, we are not able to accommodate them here at the inn.

Non-Smoking Policy

For the comfort and well-being of all of our guests, The Norumbega is a Non-Smoking establishment. A designated smoking area is provided on the great lawn. Evidence, including lingering smells, of anyone smoking within The Norumbega will result in a $250 charge.

Accessibility

The Norumbega warmly welcomes all guests, however, due to the historic significance of our 1886 MidCoast Maine property, the Inn is not wheelchair accessible and traversing stairs is required to access every guest room. Removal of necessary physical barriers for accessibility are not readily achievable as such removal would threaten or destroy the historic significance of the property. These barriers include:

• Numerous steps required to enter The Norumbega

• No elevator

• Narrow hallways and doorways

We work to ensure every guest who wishes to visit can do so regardless of their physical abilities. Among the ways we comply with ADA:

• We ensure that individuals with disabilities can make reservations during the same hours and in the same manner as individuals without disabilities.

• We have identified and described the features of the Inn and its guest rooms in detail to allow individuals with disabilities to determine whether The Norumbega meets their needs.

• Guests with legitimate service animals as defined in the ADA will be provided access to all areas of the inn afforded to those without service animals. We do ask that you call ahead so we can plan on welcoming your service animal appropriately.

For special accommodation needs, please call us directly at 207-236-4646 so we can help you determine the best guest room to ensure you have a comfortable arrival and enjoyable stay.

Liquor License

Our boutique hotel has a full Liquor License, which means that it is illegal for guests to bring their own alcoholic beverages into our common areas, balconies, terrace, or on the great lawn. You may, of course, enjoy these in the privacy of your own room. The Norumbega offers a carefully curated menu of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available at the bar, and we would be happy to serve them to you.
