With over three decades of culinary and hospitality expertise, Chef Phillip Crispo brings the concept of ‘simple things done exceptionally well’ to guests at The Norumbega Inn. His food reflects his global experiences and his artistic palate: teaching in Singapore, Jamaica and across the U.S.; training in the UK, US and Germany; growing up in Scotland with a love of Indian food.
Prior to becoming co-owner and chef at The Norumbega in 2013, Chef Phil’s professional background includes Associate Professor at the world-renown Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY (during which he also ran the school’s ‘Escoffier’ restaurant), serving as Executive Chef at Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland, owning his own restaurant in Dunkeld, Scotland, working at Compass Group as Regional Executive Chef and holding roles of increasing responsibility at other notable culinary establishments, including the prestigious Huntingtower Hotel in Scotland and Cipriani’s in NYC.
Chef Phil holds a Professional Chef Certification – Level III, has won awards in several global competitions from the Societe Culinaire Philanthropique and International Salon Culinaire, and was a winner on the Food Network show, “Chopped”. He is a member of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.
Most importantly, he loves the flavors, the opportunity to create and the value of nourishment that food holds. He continues to be an avid teacher and mentor. He has partnered with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute to help develop better utilization of various species in our waters that can reduce reliance on overfishing. He can also recite multiple monologues from Monty Python, in character.
